Welcome to tenth and eleventh grade English! In the 10th grade students study literature from around the world. This year we will study literature from Latin and Central America, the Middle East, and Asia. The units will not only focus on geographical regions, but also on themes and literary forms that pertain to them. Throughout the year, you will take part in seminars, write essays, and deliver speeches. You will also be creating a web portfolio using Google Sites which chronicles this year’s academic journey. The ELA course for eleventh grade is devoted to a study of American literature from the colonial period to the late twentieth century. Because much of the early literature is nonfiction (diaries, letters, sermons, almanacs, speeches, and foundational documents), there are many opportunities to analyze historical and informational texts. You will come to see the fluid relationship between fiction and nonfiction. Throughout the year, you will take part in seminars, write essays, and deliver speeches. You will also be creating a web portfolio using Google Sites which chronicles this year’s academic journey.

- Our classroom is a community of learners, and success will be greater when every student contributes in their own way to the benefit of classroom learning. You are an important part of our learning environment. As such, you will be asked to participate and self-reflect upon that participation on a weekly basis.

With this in mind, it is essential that you be as organized and as thorough as possible.

Academic Honesty
Saint Genevieve High School demands the academic moral best from each student. Academic dishonesty in any form is directly contrary to our philosophy and goals. Therefore cheating or plagiarism of any kind warrants serious disciplinary repercussions. Saint Genevieve supports the belief that academic honesty demands individual accountability with regard to the submission of student work. Students have a moral responsibility to others and themselves to avoid cheating. Honesty is the primary responsibility of each student. Saint Genevieve considers cheating to be a voluntary act for which there may be reasons, but for which there is no justification.
The school will follow these steps. However; in extremely serious cases students may be immediately placed on probation, suspended or expelled. Please read the Parent/Student handbook to review the Academic Honesty Policy. Any plagiarized work will receive a grade of zero and will be referred to the Administration.
